Thingvellir

Thingvellir

With its rift valley and looming cliffs, Thingvellir is a place of convergence—land meets water and sky, past merges with present. On its grounds the Althing took place (an open-air assembly that met annually for two weeks from 930 until 1798); it was a congress of great importance to the Icelandic people, where many exchanges took place, concerns aired and disputes settled.
